How to Be Brave
Directions:
It's bad enough when your child has to sit in a doctor's waiting room for a long time; it's worse when he or she dreads the appointment. Here's a way to make the time pass more quickly and dispel some anxiety.
Do a little role reversal, and have your child ask you various questions, such as, "So what's the doctor going to do today?" You then talk about what's likely to happen and ask your child what you can do to be brave.
You can also provide some comic relief by offering silly scenarios, such as, "Well, I'm a bit nervous, because the doctor is going to put Oreo cookies between my toes and stinky cheese on my head." Your child can then assure you that there's nothing to worry about; the cheese aroma won't last more than a month, and the cookie filling will keep your feet warm during winter!
When it's time to see the doctor, your child will be giggling with a host of remedies to share with the medical staff!
